We got some really cool and interesting results. We had an intern come and watch them all day for all of the breeding and nesting season. We could see some differences-two of the females built mound nests, one digs a hole nest and developmental rates within the eggs varied-so we wanted to see if there was something going on socially or dominance-wise to dictate those differences. I was curious to see if I could use their behavior to predict their reproductive output. How did your research on the Cuban crocodiles start? Ours is some of the very first social research on Cuban crocs. Nine species out of the 23 have had at least some research on some kind of social behavior, but there’s a lot still to learn. There is some documentation of courtship behavior in the wild, and there’s been extensive research done on American alligators. Primarily on species like American crocs, saltwater crocs and American alligators. They’re hard to study in the wild, so a lot of behavioral research on alligators and crocodilians has been in human care. Alligators and crocodiles aren’t animals that people typically think of as having much of a social life. This research has recently been published in recent scientific papers, including one this year in the Herpetological Review. And, it's a species on which very little social and behavioral research has been done.Īugustine’s research began as a way to track the reproductive cycles of the Zoo’s three female Cuban crocodiles, but has since expanded to include social interactions, dominance behavior and even play behavior. The Zoo is fortunate to have several species of crocodilians, including the Cuban crocodile-a critically endangered species native (as its name suggests) solely to Cuba. A majority of that research, though, has focused on only a handful of the 23 existing species of crocodilians: predominantly the American alligator, American crocodile and the saltwater crocodile. Consequently, much of what scientists know about crocodilian behavior and biology comes form animals in human care. Research on crocodiles and alligators in the wild is often difficult and dangerous. Keepers at the Reptile Discovery Center, including animal keeper Lauren Augustine, are upholding that proud tradition with ground-breaking research on social behavior, reproduction and play in a species not typically associated with any of those words: a crocodile. Next: Pokémon Unite Roster: Every Playable Pokémon In The Game Pokémon Unite has only just begun its time in the hands of players, but if the problems highlighted by Not_Nathan_Drake are significant enough to dissuade a large portion of the potential player base, it will be a short lifespan. Many players feel that should not be an option when it comes to titles that rely on competition between players. There seems to be a growing issue where some of these purchasable assets drastically affect the outcome of games. i agree that paying to buy upgrades for in game items is not great but that video is such a bad example. Sometimes, however, free-to-play games have in-game items for purchase that can drastically affect a player's performance and these scenarios are considered pay-to-win. moistcritical spawn camped bots that all ranged from lvl 4-9 with a lvl 12 machamp and boosted his items to lvl 25+ and proceeded to win 1 game against humans and lost 5. Please be VERY mindful of the predatory monetisation in Pokemon Unite from NintendoSwitchĬontrary to their designation, free-to-play mobile games are some of the biggest moneymakers in the video game industry. Supposedly the only way to speed up that progress, and subsequently make players more powerful, is to purchase certain in-game items using real-world currency. Not_Nathan_Drake ended up highly recommending players stay away from the new title until some of these design choices change. According to the Reddit user, the free-to-play title uses five monetization strategies when most other free-to-play games only use about two. One of the more egregious practices according to Not_Nathan_Drake is how the title plays during the welcome campaign compared to the rest of the game. The Redditor admitted to having fun during Pokémon Unite's opening, but progress became significantly slower even though they were playing the same way they had been during the welcome campaign. Reddit user Not_Nathan_Drake made an extensive post on the site detailing what they consider to be the "predatory monetization" practices present in Pokémon Unite. How many hours does Pandora give for free? Amazon does offer HD listening with up to 850 kbps, which is more than double the rate of what Pandora offers, or any other music streaming service for that matter. Besides, both offer personalized radio stations based on the songs and artists you like the most. Is Amazon better than Pandora?Īmazon Music provides a much better music listening experience with a huge library of streaming songs, if you’re an avid music lover. Some popular names include Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, Tidal, YouTube Music, Deezer, Qobuz, etc. Today, there is almost a dozen of popular music streaming services out there that offer basically the same features. Which is the best music streaming service? Pandora is relatively cheaper than Spotify, considering Pandora Plus is just $4.99 per month compared to Spotify Individual which costs $9.99 per month. While both the services have their ad-supported free versions that get the job done just fine, premium plans have their own advantages, such as ad-free music, unlimited skips, and so on. Spotify would be a better choice, if you’re looking for some serious music listening experience. Which is better Pandora or Spotify?Īlthough, Pandora has long been in the race, it struggles to maintain its stronghold, especially in today’s highly competitive market where players like Spotify holds a major share of the global music streaming business. Pandora has been around even before Spotify came to the picture and its popular Music Genome Project is truly a big plus, it is facing its biggest competition, especially with so many players fighting for the reigns, and Spotify jumped to an early lead with its great offerings, massive library, curated playlists, ad-free music, and more. While both Spotify and Pandora are the most popular digital music services out there, Spotify clearly leads the pack despite its late entry into this super-competitive market. Spotify Family Plan costs $15.99 per month which gives access to six accounts. Spotify has almost similar plans, starting with $9.99 a month for the Individual Plan which offers ad-free music. Pandora starts as low as $4.99 and goes up to $14.99 for the Family Plan which offers all Premium features and access to up to six accounts. Both allow you to listen to songs even after the trial period ends, but with some limitations, like no skipping songs, random playlist order and so on. – Both the services offer a free version for any mobile device you want and both the free versions come with ads, obviously. Spotify has similar offerings in terms of stations, but Pandora Stations are customizable and more diverse. Based on the features you choose, Pandora creates the right Station that matches your favorite songs and more. The best things about Pandora is its one-of-its-kind ‘Music Genome Project’ that creates different stations based on characteristic traits such as rhythm, melody, artist, song and genre. – While both are great services when it comes to music discovery, Pandora has more radio stations that are perfectly tailored to your liking and favorites. The difference may be notable, but this shouldn’t be the sole reason to opt for a different service as lower bitrate sounds fine. Spotify offers the highest audio quality with 320 kbps for its Premium subscribers, while Pandora Premium offers a maximum of 192 kbps. While both use the same lossy AAC file format, Spotify also uses the lossy Ogg Vorbis format to generate better sound quality. – Unfortunately, neither of the two music streaming services offer high quality streaming options. Pandora, on the other hand, through acquisition of other services, has a library of little over 1.5 million songs, which is a lot less compared to what Spotify has. That being said, Spotify is probably the biggest player in the digital music industry as of now, with a massive music catalog of over 50 million songs. – While both Spotify and Pandora are the most popular digital music services out there, Pandora struggles to maintain its footing in this new digital era. Difference between Spotify and Pandora Music Catalog It’s hard to imagine how a company that literally started the online radio movement now struggles to find new footing. Although, it launched originally as an internet radio service, it took to fame as one of the rising stars of the early digital music industry but it failed to maintain its stronghold following a strong competition against the industry leaders like Apple, Amazon, and Spotify. In a short time, Pandora transformed the digital music industry with its so-called ‘Music Genome Project’ – an algorithm designed to recommend songs by musical traits. Launched in 2005 as a personalized radio experience, Pandora was the first online service to make personalization a key part of music listening experience. Pandora is a subscription-based music streaming and radio service owned by California-based Sirius XM Holdings.
